Lucky and Shelby's Favorite DC Area Haunts:

Lucky and Shelby prefer a nice walk in urban neighborhoods with plenty of outdoor restaurants or cafes, as well as interesting shops where the friendly owners will let them come in and browse (although we usually carry them). The following favorites have both shops and restaurants and are perfect for spending 2-3 hours.

Bethesda: Woodmont,Bethesda Avenue and Elm St. This block is anchored by the Barnes and Noble Bookstore, with a wonderful fountain and lots of outdoor seating. There are plenty of restaurants with outdoor seating. The most hospitible towards dogs are Austin Grill and Parkers. Levante's is not (no matter - once you get past the breads, it's highly overrated). Walk around the corner to Elm St to the nirvana of dog stores, the Three Dog Bakery, where they'll always have a treat for your pup. We guarantee your pup will droll over the display case. Elm St also has the Bethesda Pet Shop, which is a good place to pick up supplies. And if you and your pup want to take a longer walk, the Georgetown Trail Branch intersects at Bethesda and Woodmont.
Kensington: Historic Antique District - Howard Avenue. This area is loaded with excellent antique stores. Most of them are happy to let you carry in your pup, and there are plenty of benches and wide sidewalks where you can tie up the bigger bowsers. There's also the Tea Room, a nice small restaurant with plenty of shaded outdoor tables. Perfect place to grab a sandwich and a soda. The wait staff will usually automatically bring out a bowl of water.
Cleveland Park: Conneticut Avenue between Macomb and Porter streets. Lucky and Shelby like this area, primarily because of the nice big PETCO, and the outdoor tables at the restaurants on the west side of Conneticut Ave. Lucky and Shelby's parents favorite gift store, Wake up Little Suzie, is a pet friendly shop that welcomes well behaved pups.
Georgetown: M street and Wisconsin Ave. There's plenty to do in this area (obviously) although we wouldn't recommend any dog being tied up and left outside a shop. Many of the smaller shops have no problem with you carrying in a smaller pup. Urban Outfitters usually has no problem as well. Several of the cafes below M st. near the canal, as well as Dean and Deluca, have outside tables where you can dine with your pup.

Annapolis: Historic Main Street Area. Lots of shops and restaurants down by the water with outdoor tables. It's a little tougher to bring the pups in the shops. But Shelby could sit at the dock and watch the ducks all day.
